Cressing temple barns

Cressing Temple Barns is a site rich in ancient history. Built in the 13th century, the magnificent Grade I listed Barley and Wheat Barns were part of large farmstead built by the Knights Templar. Open for Breakfast from 10am until 11am and run by Wilkin Sons renowned jam makers of Tiptree, Essex. From timeless weddings to blissful vow renewals and civil partnerships, our surroundings promise to create unforgettable, picture-perfect events.


The Food Shows or Craft Shows or their Christmas Markets is a great day out plus. The estate is remarkable for two extraordinary 13th-century timber barns which are among the finest in Europe.

There are also numerous other medieval buildings and a Tudor walled garden. Visit the oldest recorded timber-framed barn in the world and enjoy the beautifully landscaped Tudor Walled Garden. You can finish the day with a cream tea at ‘The Barns’ Tiptree Tea Room. It was amongst the very earliest and largest of the possessions of the Knights Templar in Englan and is currently open to the public as a visitor site.

We grow a wide range of traditional English fruits and use them to make conserves, condiments, and other treats in our nut-free factory by the farm. The Barley and Wheat Barns were constructed in 13th century. Historian Michael Haag described them as “the two finest Templar-built barns in Europe”.
